Records Retention
The System is often asked, “How long should we keep Board Meeting Minutes/Financials/Job applications?” and this can be addressed with a Records Retention policy and schedule.
There is more about “Records Retention” on the State Library of Kansas Website: https://library.ks.gov/ librarians/policy-resources
On that page, you will also find this link to a Records Retention recommendation list was created in 2008 by a System Consultant in Great Bend. When the list says “Disposition: Archive” that means the records can be boxed up for storage or put in a binder. The Minutes and Agendas are the history of the library and are valuable records that should be maintained. When the list says “destroy,” that means shredding.
